METRO FIRE Showcases Water Saving Firefighter Training at CSFA Legislative Day
Sacramento, CA – At the conclusion of the 2018 California State Firefighters’ Association (CSFA) Legislative Day, Metro Fire will demonstrate a newly purchased water efficient training tool at the State Capitol in conjunction with the manufacturer, Pump-Pod USA. Called a “DRAFTS Unit,” which stands for Direct Recycling Apparatus Firefighting Training & Sustainability, each device placed into service will definitively save millions of gallons of water every year.
The All Risk and All Hazard mission of Metro Fire includes not only responding to emergencies but also ensuring we are able to properly train our personnel to mitigate those emergencies. It is also our goal to provide training that is environmentally sound and follows best management practices for valuable resources such as water and air quality. The DRAFTS Unit allows full water flow evolutions up to 1,500 gallons per minute to be recirculated which equates to over 500,000 gallons of water saved in a single day of training.
The unit purchased by Metro Fire will be on display and a functional demonstration will occur at 345 pm on the north lawn of the California State Capitol with two fire engines. Attendance is expected by some of the over 120 State Senators and Assembly Members who have been invited with a role in legislation or regulatory oversight related to the fire service or water and conservation issues. Other invitees include representation of the Governor’s Office, Department of Water Resources water efficiency staff (who have RSVP’d), the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services, and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protections (CAL Fire) Staff Chiefs and Academy Training Staff.
Representatives from Metro Fire including the Director of Training / Battalion Chief Adam House, the CSFA, and Pump-Pods USA will be on site and available for comment at the demonstration. Mike Shrout, President of the CSFA, states, “We would like to thank Metro Fire and Pump-Pod USA for showcasing the water-saving DRAFTS unit for lawmakers and other officials today at our annual Legislative Day at the Capitol. As champions of innovative fire training and as responsible stewards of the environmental, the CSFA is proud to support the work Pump-Pod USA has one in bringing this water-saving full flow training device to market.”
